Dominating the landscape to the north of Keswick is Skiddaw, 931 m (3,054 ft). This is the fourth highest mountain in England and is the simplest of the Lake District mountains of this height to ascend, with a well-trodden route to the top from behind Latrigg.  Wainwright recommended the walk to the summit as one which all the family can enjoy. But it can be windy and cold on the top.
